Rewards Scam
Scammers Impersonating as e-commerce platform staff to deceive victim into providing their banking credential in order to claim the cash rewards or lucky draw prizes that offered by e-commerce platform.
How does it work?
- Scammers impersonating as e-commerce platform staff and use messaging platforms or phone call to approach victim.
- The scammers would claim that there were issues with the victims’ accounts or claim there is payment discrepancies in the victims’ purchases.
- Scammers may also claim that the victims had won a prize from their e-commerce platform.
- Scammers will request victim to provide their e-commerce platform account login details, credit/debit card details and one-time password (OTP) in order to rectify the issue or to claim the prize.
- Victims would only realised that they had been scammed when they discovered there are unauthorised transactions made to their credit or debit card.
How to protect yourself?
- Please contact the e-commerce platform by referring to the contact number on their official website to verify the offer before you take any actions.
- Do not share your banking detail, password, OTP, and PIN to anyone including BOCM staff, Bank Negara Malaysia, Royal Malaysia Police, or any other authorities.
- Report to bank at 03-20595566 immediately if you suspect or have fallen into the rewards scam incident and your banking details are compromised.
- Alternatively, you may contact National Scam Response Centre hotline at 997 if you having difficulties in contacting our bank.
