Bank of China Malaysia Launched “BOCM Bursary Program” and “BOCM Green Wealth Management” Short Video Competition

Bank of China Malaysia Bhd (BOCM) launched the BOCM Bursary Program as part of its Corporate Social Responsibilities program. The program is intended to assist students who face financial difficulties but never gave up pursuing their dreams while striving for success. The bursary mainly subsidizes the purchase of school supplies for students attending independent secondary schools in the new school year 2023.

Terms and Conditions For “BOCM Chinese Education Bursary”

In the first phase, BOCM has allocated RM120,000 for the distribution of 240 bursaries worth RM500 each. Students from low income families can submit applications through their respective schools. Dong Zong (United Chinese School Committees’ Association Malaysia) will be the coordinating party handling the end to end process for the bursary program. The application ends on 21 April 2023 and the details will be announced by Dong Zong to the respective schools.

As part of the 520 Full Of Love 5.0 program, the Bank has also launched the“BOCM Green and Wealth Trophy” short video competition with the objective to enhance student’s’ knowledge on ESG and Personal Financial Management. The competition starts on 4 October 2022 until 31 December 2022.  The Bank has allocated RM5,000 as rewards for the competition.  

Both the Bursary Program and short video competition are part of the 520 Full Of Love Series 5.0’s umbrella program. 520 represents I love you in Chinese internet language. Over the last few years, the Bank has been organizing various 520 activities promoting Chinese Culture, Personal Financial Management Skills and filial piety. In addition, the Bank has also launched initiatives that helped the B40 income group from the financial perspective. 

Mr Huang Lei, Deputy CEO and Advisor to the CSR Team, said that the CSR team has taken the initiative to integrate into the local society and strive to fulfill its corporate responsibility, including advocating Chinese culture, financial literacy education and alleviating the financial of the lower income group. 

In 2018, the CSR team introduced its first 520 program named "520, Bring Home Love, Filial and Financial Knowledge" program. The program focused on three major themes; (1) family relationship, (2) Chinese culture and (3) financial literacy. Each event received excellent feedback from the attendees and the program has benefited more than 2,500 people over the years.

Mr Tan Tai Kim, Chairman of Dong Zong said that it is an honor to work together with BOCM for the first time. As the coordinator of the Bank’s bursary program, Dong Zong is mainly responsible for the selection and approval of the bursary’s applications.

Mr Kong Kim Heng, Director of Wealth Management and Chairman of CSR Team said that the Bank hopes to enhance students’ financial literacy through a series of 520 activities.  In addition, with the Green Wealth Management short video competition, participants will also be aware of the importance of ESG to the world and its’ future.
